Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
St. Brendan School’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) helps ensure every student receives the support they need to succeed. It brings academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support together into one coordinated system.
Through a three-tiered approach, teachers use student data and proven strategies to identify individual needs and provide the right level of support within daily routines.
Tier 1: Universal Support
All students receive high-quality classroom instruction and learning experiences designed to support the needs of the entire class.
Tier 2: Targeted Support
Some students receive additional support in specific areas. This may include preferential seating, regular teacher check-ins, small-group instruction, or additional help understanding directions and classroom materials.
Tier 3: Individualized Support
Students with more significant needs receive individualized support through an IEP, 504 Plan, or STEP Plan. These supports are tailored to each student and may be temporary, such as providing notes for a student with a broken arm, or ongoing throughout the student’s time at St. Brendan School.

Collaborative Leadership
Our MTSS team, faculty, and staff work together to guide the program, provide resources, and support students and families. Key team roles and our partnership with CPLA may also be included to show the full range of support available.
Family Engagement
We build meaningful partnerships with families and provide inclusive opportunities for them to participate in their child’s education.
Staff Training and Resources
Faculty and staff receive professional development, coaching, mentoring, and resources focused on SEL, PBIS, and restorative practices.
Communication and Collaboration
School leaders, faculty, staff, and families communicate openly and work together toward shared student goals.
Data-Informed Decisions
Student data helps the MTSS team, teachers, and families identify needs, monitor progress, and adjust support when necessary.
Research-Based Practices
We use proven approaches, including PBIS and restorative practices, to provide effective academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support.
Continuous Improvement
Our MTSS framework will continue to grow through regular reflection, monthly team meetings, and a three-year implementation plan.
Whole-Child Support
MTSS brings academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support together to address the needs of the whole child.
