
Honors and Awards
Student-of-the-Month
A student from each grade is selected each month, September through May. This is a recognition to the student who exhibits high achievement in school spirit, cooperation, and academic effort.​
Awards given during the school year
During the school year, students in 4th through 8th grades may qualify for the following awards:
Honor Roll:​ At report card time, the student must receive at least a "B" in all solids (Religion, Language Arts, Math, Literature, Social Studies, and Science) and at least a "B" in conduct and effort.

Must not have patterns of absence due to elongated weekends and holidays

Must not miss specific classes regularly

​Must not have more than three tardies in a trimester​

Merit Award: The student must receive at least a "B" in conduct and effort.

Merit Award Requirements - At report card time, the student must receive at least a “B" or above and must adhere to the Honor Code*.
Graduation Awards
The following awards are given to students during the graduation ceremony. These award recipients are chosen by the faculty based on measurable academic data, exemplary work ethic, outstanding participation, and self motivation. ​
​Highest Academic Achievement in the Subject Areas Awards:

​​​Mathematics: Our Mathematics Award honors a student who shows strong mathematical thinking, demonstrates a deep awareness of quantitative information in their environment and approaches problems using logical, symbolic, spatial, and abstract reasoning. They show persistence, confidence, and a willingness to take risks in exploring and applying an in-depth understanding of mathematical topics.

History: Our History Award honors a student who shows curiosity and passion for the events that shape our world. They have strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret evidence and form arguments, are able to engage in complex texts and express ideas clearly as they actively participate in class discussions to deepen their understanding.

Language Arts:
Writing: Our Language Arts Writing Award honors a student who excels through a combination of strong foundational skills, a curious and adaptable mindset, and consistent effort. They consistently work to develop writing as a craft.
Reading: Our Language Arts Reading Award honors a student who is an avid reader, adept at manipulating abstract ideas, insightful in their questioning, and possesses a broad vocabulary, allowing them to make connections and understand complex concepts deeply.

Religion: Our Religion Award honors a student who consistently exhibits integrity and compassion and seeks to develop moral and spiritual growth. They regularly participate in class discussion, and collaboratively work with their peers to develop personal ideals and moral development.

Science: Our Science Aw​ard honors a student who demonstrates an ability to ask questions, analyze information critically, integrate new knowledge, solve problems systematically, communicate effectively, and view challenges as opportunities for learning.​​

Highest Overall Academic Achievement: ​The award for highest overall academic achievement honors a boy and a girl who have the highest overall GPA, while also demonstrating an exemplary work ethic, personal integrity, consistent class engagement, and a high level of self-motivation.

Principal’s Award for Academic and Athletic Achievement: ​The Principal’s Award honors a boy and a girl who exemplify what it means to be a student athlete. They prioritize school work and academic achievement while giving their time, talent and commitment to many of our St. Brendan School athletic​s teams.

Sr. Maureen O’Connor, CSJ Excellence in the Arts: The Sister Maureen O’Connor, CSJ, Excellence in the Arts Award recognizes a student who shows passion for visual or performing arts, engages creatively with our arts program in the classroom, in our theater arts program, or in the creative spirit and contributions they have demonstrated at St. Brendan School. ​​​
​
​Sr. Marta Ann, CSJ Leadership, Service, and Spirit Award: ​​The Sister Marta Ann, CSJ, Leadership, Service and Spirit Award recognizes a student who exemplifies what it means to be a student leader. They consistently participate in leadership opportunities, model the school’s Student Learning Expectations throughout their middle school years and have gained the respect of their peers, their teachers and school community.​ ​

​Thrive in Joy, Nick Fagnano Award: The Thrive in Joy, Nick Fagnano Award honors a student who exemplifies the joy, character, and spirit of Nick Fagnano. This student exhibits kindness and integrity in everything they do. They serve the school as an altar server, student council member or athlete and choose to serve others as Nick did when he was a student at St. Brendan School.​​​​​​
​
​Salutatorian Award: ​The Salutatorian Award is given to a student who is revered by their fellow classmates as a person of integrity, character and leadership. They have earned the respect of their peers through their acts of kindness, collaboration, and support throughout their middle school years. This student is chosen by the 8th-grade class. They have the honor of being the opening speaker at the graduation ceremony. ​​​​​​

​​​​​​​​​​California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) Certificate of Membership:​​ Membership in CJSF is through school chapters. Each chapter is comprised of student members who meet eligibility requirements. CJSF membership is based on scholarship and is gained after qualifying grades are earned each trimester in 7th and 8th grade. A point system specified in the CJSF State By-Laws establishes the membership requirements.

​​​A student establishes membership by earning academic points. 10 points nust be earned by a student enrolled in 5 eligible subjects - Math, History, Science, Literature, Grammar.

CJSF trimester points are calculated based on grades as follows:
A = 3 CJSF points
B = 1 CJSF point
C or Pass = 0 CJSF points
D or F in any subject shall disqualify the student from membership for the trimester

Each student has a responsibility as a member of the St. Brendan School community to lead with kindness, generosity, honesty, and respect.
Each student has to:
