Run by middle school students, the Brendan Bear newspaper is operated as an on-campus club. The paper is published three times per school year and includes all the elements of a working newspaper: news, features, sports, opinion, entertainment, photography, ads sold by staffers, and "Cubs Corner", a section targeted to Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students.

​Each spring, incoming 5th through 8th graders are invited to participate in an application process. Twenty students staff the paper, led by two Editors-in-Chief and a Managing Editor.  The Brendan Bear is facilitated by two working communications professionals: a writer/editor and a graphic designer.
