Run by middle school students, the Brendan Bear newspaper is operated as an on-campus club. The paper is published three times per school year, and includes all the elements of a working newspaper: news, features, sports, opinion, entertainment, photography, ads sold by staffers, and "Cubs Corner", a section targeted to K through 2nd grade students.

Each spring, incoming 7th and 8th graders are invited to participate in an application process. 20 students staff the paper, led by two editors-in-chief and a managing editor. The Brendan Bear is facilitated by two working communications professionals: a writer/editor and a graphic designer.
